Canadian SPort Athletes Embrace when Closing Ceremony - hile the Closing Ceremony is a spectacle of music, lights and energy for people all over the world, it's especially significant towards the athletes.

The show was the perfect way to fill up a successful Olympic Games-Games that the athletes spent an eternity preparing for.

Much like the competition itself, the Ceremony provides every athlete using the chance to show their national pride around the world’s biggest stage. It had been no different for Team Canada, led by Closing Ceremony flagbearer Christine Sinclair.

Clad in white and red, Canada's athletes embraced their patriotism and celebrated their collective accomplishments.

"I couldn’t be prouder to be Canadian right now,” said Olympic bronze medallist canoeist Mark Oldershaw. “We will have a great time tonight and celebrate all of our accomplishments. I’m just glad to become a some of it.”

For others, it is a chance to leave behind their illustrious sporting career, as they declare London 2012 their final Olympic Games.

“I’m looking for closure in the Closing Ceremony,” said Canadian rower Dave Calder. Though he announced his retirement after winning silver at Beijing 2008, he and teammate Scott Frandsen returned for additional at London 2012. They placed sixth in the men’s pair. “It’s always been part of my plan to participate tonight. It will be nice to express good-bye to my last Olympics being an athlete. This will help the transition.”

It's also an opportunity to think about the Games and take it all in.

“I’m enjoying just from it,” said boxer Custio Clayton. “It’s just a great feeling.”

With all events over, the atmosphere is, based on wrestler David Tremblay, overwhelming relaxed.

“Everybody is within a relaxed mood when compared to Opening Ceremonies,” he explained. “It’s so nice to see everyone get together from different countries and having fun. It’s going to be a pleasurable night.”
